Tree Planting Shovel

The Tree Planting Shovel design was developed over a couple of seasons of planting by tree planters with over 30 years planting experience. The original design of the shovel stems from modifying and repurposing a post hole digger into a planting shovel. The unique geometry has a tighter radiused curve to the blade, and a slightly wider blade profile. The width provides more space for the tree hand to place the plug, and allows more control for shovel close technique. The radius makes it easier to C-cut with the blade, and provides additional strength.

The absence of a kicker on the shovel prevents roots and branches from catching on the blade, making this shovel ideal for fast ground. The longer blade length provides more space to place the plug when sliding the plug down the back of the blade. The extra length also ensures a greater longevity of the blade as it will take much longer to wear down. Superior quality steel is used to allow the blade material to be thinner. A thinner blade is ideal for chopping through tough grass-mat. The hardness of the blade is critical to prevent the leading edge from chipping or deforming too much on impact with rocks. The edge can be touched up with a file or an angle grinder to bring back the factory sharp edge, which is provided to assist with cutting through grassy or rooty ground. The ironclad attachment design of the blade makes it much easier to service, should a new handle need to be fashioned to the blade. The robust D-handle provides a sturdy wide grip.
